The views here at Monks Cowls are just as breath taking as
in the Royal Natal Park. The campsite was empty at first but we acquired some noisy
neighbours later on, the facilities are fine.
When we arrived at our pitch we were greeted by a couple of
resident vervet monkeys but so far they haven’t been a nuisance.
After shopping and a cuppa in Winterton, we arrived at
lunchtime and set off for a short hike to see some mountain waterfalls and rock
pools. So nice to take your boots off and cool off your feet in the mountain
rivers. The Berg Adder was on the path just in front of me, about 30cm long and
as thick as your finger, it soon pushed off, thankfully as we approached. We
could also hear the dominant male baboons alarm call echoing loudly in the
woods just above us as we approached.
Second attempt at bread on the
braai tonight, the first time Debs dough was fine but my cooking lacked
expertise! The eagle eyed will notice Steve bracing the camping table legs,
thus allowing Deb to give the dough enough welly!
It will be an early night for us tonight
as there’s absolutely nothing here! Lamb kebabs, baby courgettes, baked spuds on
the braai and a terrific pinotage to wash it down. What could be nicer?

Looks great you two.
