Ndumu is
right in the top right hand corner of SA between Mozambique and Swaziland. There’s 7 huts and a
camp site here, no fence between us and the reserve. Lots of signs saying beware of the
Hippos, Crocs, Rhinos, Buffalo and Leopard!
On the way
here we stopped for a few hours at the Tembe Elephant Park, only accessible in
a 4 X 4 vehicle. We were lucky to spot 5 Elephants in total. Three we spooked and
they came rushing across the track in front of us and two more were having a
wallow in a muddy pool.
During our
dinner on our first night a small group of female Nyala came within about 20 paces for about half
an hour, lovely.
The morning
game walk with guide was good for birds but not much else. It was a bit of a
struggle though getting up at 4.15 for the 5.00am start!

In the afternoon we came across the biggest herd of Giraffe we have ever seen, at least 11 but difficult to count in the thick bush. Whilst we were having dinner a male Nyala came so close to us. Just kept very still.

Woken early
this morning by monkeys jumping on the tent roof!

Hi both. I've had a very enjoyable time this evening catching up on the blog. Looks absolutely brilliant and you've posted some truly stunning photos. Love the one of the hippo with its mouth open. And you're right about Rourke's Drift: it must have been incredibly atmospheric. Thought I'd also report that it's currently 3 degrees here. That's a 3 without a 0 (remember that?!). Happy travelling in Swaziland.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon. Thought of you when writing the Rouke's Drift blog. You would love it!
