Biltong, beer and burnt bread.

So we have to fess up, the bread on Friday night came out looking like a cannon ball. Round black and very hard. Inside it was ok, outside it wasn’t. No photos…….. Still it’s all a learning experience.

Saturday night we made Roosterkoek, and they were a success (Dad you know them as dampers!). More on that later.

We spent the morning at the Winterton Street festival and came away with some delicious biltong, as well as a few other bits and bobs.





The Sphynx was the afternoon walking challenge. Up though the forest, gasp! Out into the protea belt and then at last we were rewarded with some brilliant views.




Some pretty flowers along the way too.



Hot chilli and rice with bread rolls (Roosterkoek) cooked on the braai, it was a bit of a struggle though as the wood wasn’t good. Where is Art and his moisture ometer when you need him?

Slight problem with cheeky monkeys this morning trying to pinch our breakfast, Deb had their measure though!



This morning we were off to Durban to meet Sue and Pete. We choose the scenic route along the ‘Midlands Meander’ on the R103 through Mooiriver, Rosetta, Nottingham Road and Lions River. First stop coffee and cake at  CafĂ© Bloom(Lemon Polenta cake), Rachel you would have loved it. These are a bit of a long read but worth the investment! 




Then along a bit more to Piggly Wiggley for a chicken and mango salad lunch. Lots of small artisan businesses along that way selling things like beer, shoes, cheese and furniture.
